While we work to reschedule the 25th Annual Exhibition of Art by Michigan Prisoners, PCAP will forgo its normal prisoner art selection process. Instead, we are planning an artists’ engagement visit to every prison in the state as soon as we are safely able to do so.

Much of PCAP’s regular programming takes place inside prisons. In the current moment, when volunteers are shut out of all prisons in Michigan due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are developing a series of pilot programs that can be conducted remotely.

Prior to the pandemic, PCAP sent groups of volunteers to facilitate creative arts workshops in youth and adult facilities and in public housing communities in Ann Arbor and Detroit…

In April, #cut50 launched the COVID-19 Dispatch, a series of conversations about how COVID-19 is impacting people in the criminal justice system, what we can do now to protect this vulnerable population, and how we can make sure this never happens again.

Rappers JAY-Z and Meek Mill are helping protect inmates and prison staff from coronavirus with the generous donation of 100,000 surgical masks. They teamed up with Reform Alliance to procure the much needed supply.

The celebrity-backed organization, Reform Alliance, partnered with Shaka Senghor who was able to find an anonymous donor so 100,000 masks could be distributed across the federal prison system.

Our partner Root & Rebound is hosting its first virtual fundraising event, Voices for Justice: An Evening of Art, Hope, and Resilience, on May 28th from 6-8 pm PST.

Long time volunteer at GLIDE Memorial Church in San Francisco, Felicia Horowitz will match all donations 10:1 to support the most vulnerable people in our society, our homeless population.
